Why STEAM Education?
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math
Young students are capable of grasping both concrete examples and abstract concepts. Students learn best by active engagements. Studies suggest that achieving expertise is less a matter of innate talent than having the opportunity and sufficient time to enable the brain to develop. Exploring a topic completely builds a student’s confidence in his/her own abilities. Science. Technology. Engineering. Arts. Math.
When confidence increases, so does achievement. Covering fewer topics in greater depth leads to greater achievement. Standards from several disciplines are mastered in a single learning experience. Lessons are integrated learning experiences that mirror real life. Instruction is aligned to the standards with a STEAM focus. The classroom has a student-centered, hands-on, minds-on approach. “Teachable moments” are abundant. Critical thinking allows students to continually reach new planes of self-improvement and self-actualization.
Our STEAM program encourages children to ask questions, make observations, solve problems and collaborate with peers.
Science
In science, our students explore the world around them through hands-on discovery, observation, and experimentation. They engage in age-appropriate activities, such as mixing colors, planting seeds, exploring animals and habits, learning the layers of the earth, the biomes of the world and observing weather patterns and how the world around us shapes our lives.
Through guided inquiry and playful investigation, our students develop a curiosity, practice asking questions, learn what a hypothesis is and begin to understand cause-and-effect relationships. This early exposure to scientific thinking builds a strong foundation for future learning and nurtures a sense of wonder about how the world works.
Technology
In the technology portion, our students are introduced to age-appropriate tools and devices that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and exploration. They begin to understand how technology works and how it can be used to learn, communicate, and create.
These experiences help our students develop fine motor skills, expand their creative expression, stimulate critical thinking and memory retention, and encourage collaborative learning. Students gain confidence and boost early literacy and math skills.
Engineering
In engineering, our young builders and problem-solvers, through hands-on activities, design, innovate and construct. Using blocks, recycled materials, building sets and everyday objects, our students learn balance, structure and function.
Working both individually and in groups, our students tackle challenges such as bridge building, towers, and simple machines and develop critical thinking collaboration. These playful engineering experiences lay the groundwork for understanding how things are made and creative ideas come to life.
Math
In math, our students build foundational skills through hands-on, play-based activities that make learning numbers and patterns fun and meaningful. We explore concepts such as counting, sorting, shapes, measurement, basic addition, and subtraction.
Using manipulatives, games, songs and real-world experiences, we measure ingredients, create patterns, compare sizes, develop number sense, problem solve and love for math. These early experiences support logical thinking and set the stage for future success in mathematics.
Art
In art, our students express their imagination and creative perspective through colors, textures, patterns, and design. Using drawing, painting, sculpting and crafting we experiment with materials and tools that support fine motor development and visual thinking.
Creative art integrated with STEAM themes, encourages our students to illustrate scientific observations, design their own inventions or build artistic structures. This creative process fosters innovative, self-expression and problem-solving. Our students learn the connection between art and other areas of learning in a fun engaging way.
